FATBOY SLIM, MK and GORGON CITY TO PERFORM AT THE MARQUEE, BRISBANE SHOWGROUNDS

[lead]Across the past few weeks, one of Australia’s leading summer dance music festivals, Electric Gardens, has been unravelling the dates and venues for their biggest ever run in 2018; and teasing us with some big headliners. First, Electric Gardens announced they’d scored the return of Fatboy Slim for their flagship event at Centennial Park, Sydney. Then came news that Electric Gardens would host Fatboy Slim and Gorgon City in an outdoor amphitheatre in Perth’s hills….and on St. Kilda’s Foreshore in Melbourne. Now, the standout summer dance festival has announced that they will be bringing their weapon of choice to Brisbane![/lead]

That’s right, FATBOY SLIM – one of the most influential artists in the dance music world – will officially headline Electric Gardens Brisbane on January 25, 2018. Joining him will be North London sensations GORGON CITY, playing one of their infamous underground DJ sets, with the cherry on the cake by way of US house hero MK. 2018 sees the Brisbane event leave its 2017 home The Riverstage and head to a brand new venue – the well-reputed THE MARQUEE, at Brisbane Showgrounds. Given Brisbane’s unpredictable weather conditions, The Marquee – as a totally undercover venue – is the perfect venue for a Brisbane event (and easily accessible from the CBD).  This year’s Brisbane line-up continues to maintain the strong reputation Electric Gardens curators for drawing some of the globe’s biggest dance music stars over for the Australian summer. In previous years, the likes of Eric Prydz, Basement Jaxx, Sasha, Jamie Jones & Erick Morillo have graced the EG stage in Brisbane.

FATBOY SLIM

The original superstar DJ, FATBOY SLIM will absolutely bring the house down in Brisbane – with his always-classy show. Fatboy Slim can be considered not only as the most important music exponent of the UK, who ruled the charts and the dancefloor at the passage of the millennium in Europe and worldwide, setting record after record, but also as the father of the big-beat sound. Recently, its been a huge couple of years for Fatboy Slim, who celebrated the 20th anniversary of his seminal debut album Better Living Through Chemistry’ in 2016, and shortly thereafter also became the only artist to play Glastonbury for 17 consecutive years. He also headlined his own arena at Creamfields, played his first Ibiza residency at Cream Amnesia, and hosted a special series of six Fatboy Slim shows for BBC Beats 1. Live, FBS knows how to speak to new and different audiences – his sets and blend breakbeats with the most catchy melodies and riffs, combining fundamental elements of rock and dance cultures.

GORGON CITY

As one of the UK’s greatest dance music exports in recent years, North London duo GORGON CITY have so far enjoyed astounding success, having taken their savvy combination of infectious pop hooks and club-ready 4×4 beats to every possible corner of the planet. Since their first single ‘Real’ tore up dancefloors, airwaves and charts in 2013, they’ve enjoyed several more huge hits, most recently impressing with ‘Real Life’, a collaboration with longtime friend Duke Dumont.

They’ve consistently dominated festival season since their inception, including spending good chunks of their summer playing for revellers in Ibiza, recently with their own residency at ‘Together’. Their famed DJ sets are full of underground power, as they draw on the dank London basement world of their come-up, spinning and mixing dirty bass beats into a sweat-dripping good time. They come to Electric Gardens well primed off the back of a huge 22-date North American and UK DJ tour.

MK – MARC KINCHEN

Mark Kinchen – or as he’s better known, MK – who grew up in Detroit under the tutelage of nascent techno legends Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, has long been one of the most idiosyncratic house producers around, tempering his feel for soulful New York-styled garage with the energy of hard techno. As well as having near unprecedented levels of credibility within the underground dance music scene, MK’s a hero in the mainstream arena, too. During his time, he’s worked on R & B productions with Pharrell, Will Smith, Quincy Jones, Diane Warren, Tyrese, Brandy, and Pitbull to name a few, and has remix credits for mega pop artists, including Lana Del Rey, Sky Ferreira, and Sam Smith and more.   Through his timeless productions, MK has influenced a new generation of producer. This year tastemaker MK began hosting his own bi-weekly radio show on Beats1, and recently re-launched his iconic label and event brand Area10. He continues to blow away huge audiences around the world with his incredible DJ sets, recently performing at Together at Amnesia in Ibiza, Camp Bisco, V Festival, Parklife UK, and mounting his own Area10 takeover stages at Pacha Ibiza and Creamfields. Brisbane is in for a treat as the man behind some of the biggest tracks of early house, and still one of the most in-demand DJs on the global circuit, comes to Electric Gardens.

PRAISE FOR ELECTRIC GARDENS

“Australia’s boutique festival darling… respect to Electric Gardens for booking quality acts.” – InTheMix.com

“Electric Gardens harked back to the lost era of Summadayze – festival-ling alfresco under January sunbeams. It attracted the “young and up for it” punters in droves, with EG’s healthy quota of long-time dance legend acts bringing the older techno heads out of retirement, too…a gloriously mixed up crowd that works well.” – Pulse Radio

“Electric Gardens will provide the most memorable occasion of your whole summer….the event continues to attract an eclectic crowd whose sole goal is to enjoy themselves to live performances of dance music’s finest.” – The Plus Ones
